iWiFi Socket - WLAN to serial Internet Controller

iChip - Internet Controller

New to TDC is the iWiFi socket which offers the features of the CO710, but with an integrated WiFi transceiver on the module. As such, this means that the module provides a complete serial to WiFi solution, with no worries for your design as regards protocols, TCP/IP etc.

A few AT commands allow your design to send email, complete an FTP transfer, or set up a TCP/IP socket. Now your microcontroller designs can connect to and perform full internet functions - even a PIC micro! For the fastest evaluation, we have a development kit available. Please contact our sales office to order samples, and for further information.

A Complete Hardware and Remotely Updateable Software Solution
Connect One’s iChip™ Internet Controller™ is a family of peripheral chips that speeds the time-to-market to Internet-enable price-sensitive devices. Each chip is a complete hardware solution with remotely updateable firmware. iChip features 8/16-bit architecture, and includes up to 512KB of onboard flash memory and up to 128KB of SRAM for storing its firmware, non-volatile parameters and intermediary buffering. Versions are available for dial-up and wireless modems (iChip), 10Base-T LANs (iChip LAN™ ) or switchable dial-up, wireless or LAN connectivity (iChip Plus™ ). Socket iChip™ includes the dial-up iChip mounted on a carrier board that is pin-compatible with Conexant Systems’ SocketModem™.

iChip eliminates the need for an expensive processor, server or PC to enable Internet access. Installed between the existing host processor and the communication peripheral attached to your device’s host board, iChip invokes simple, yet powerful Internet protocol commands to send and receive email and Web pages, and to simultaneously open and close up to 10 TCP and UDP sockets.

Simplified, High-Level API
Connect One’s AT+i™ Internet extension to the Hayes AT command set is a high-level Application Programming Interface (API) that instructs the host processor to access iChip. Only a few lines of AT+i code on your host CPU are needed to Internet-enable your device. In Internet mode, iChip invokes intuitive commands on the host processor to run the Internet protocols. iChip then sends commands to the communications peripheral to access, login, authenticate, communicate and sign off the ISP. In transparent mode, the host processor bypasses iChip, permitting direct two-way communication between the host and a modem.

Ready to Integrate
iChip is ready to integrate with your existing processor via a serial interface or via a parallel interface with an external UART. The standard communication interface is a serial connection to a dial-up or wireless modem or to a10BaseT Ethernet LAN. Connect One provides iModem™ , a stand-alone Internet modem, for evaluation of the iChip dial-up version. For evaluation of iChip LAN, Connect One offers iLAN™ , a serial port-to-Internet LAN gateway. The Instant Internet™ board is available for evaluation of iChip Plus.

Benefits
• Eliminates the time, cost and complexity of developing Internet-enabled products
• No major hardware redesign or Internet programming required
• Works with any existing processor and operating system
• Enables devices to send and receive files via email, Web pages or socket interfaces
• Accesses the Internet via a dial-up modem, Ethernet LAN or wireless modem
• Remotely updateable firmware ensures long product life

The Internet within your Reach
iModem™ brings Internet connectivity within reach of many applications that require messaging and run in low-resource, price-sensitive devices. iModem sends and receives data as E-Mail, or a Web page enabling any device to communicate over the Internet without connecting to a PC or a gateway server. It also enables the use of up to 10 UDP and TCP socket interfaces.

The iModem Internet Engine
The Internet Engine inside the Connect One™ iModem is iChip™ , a low-cost processor that runs PPP, UDP, TCP/IP, SMTP, POP3, MIME, FTP and HTTP protocols. All the protocols are remotely updateable via on-board SRAM and flash memory.

iModem communicates with the host processor via Connect One’s extension to the Hayes AT command set. Connect One’s AT+i™ protocol includes high level commands that simplify the development of an API between the host processor and iModem.

In Internet mode, iModem invokes the commands that run the Internet protocols. iModem then sends commands to dial, login, authenticate, communicate and sign off the ISP. iChip can be bypassed in standard mode, permitting direct communication between the host processor and the modem.

Stand-alone and Embedded Versions
The stand-alone iModem includes iChip, Conexant SocketModem™ or Multi-Tech's ModemModule™ , LEDs, loudspeaker, DC power supply, RJ-11C connector, a DB-9 connector for an RS-232 serial connection and an enclosure. The embedded version includes iChip on a carrier board (Socket iChip™ ) that is pin-compatible with an accompanying SocketModem or ModemModule. It supports a TTL or RS232 level serial interface to the host. It also provides control signals for LEDs and a loudspeaker, as well as TIP and RING signals from the phone line. Modem data rates range from 2,400 to 56k bytes.
