iChip - Internet Controller

A Complete Hardware and Remotely Updateable
Software Solution
Connect One’s iChip™ Internet Controller™ is a
family of peripheral chips that speeds the time-to-market to Internet-enable
price-sensitive devices. Each chip is a complete hardware solution
with remotely updateable firmware. iChip features 8/16-bit architecture,
and includes up to 512KB of onboard flash memory and up to 128KB
of SRAM for storing its firmware, non-volatile parameters and intermediary
buffering. Versions are available for dial-up and wireless modems
(iChip), 10Base-T LANs (iChip LAN™ ) or switchable dial-up,
wireless or LAN connectivity (iChip Plus™ ). Socket iChip™
includes the dial-up iChip mounted on a carrier board that is pin-compatible
with Conexant Systems’ SocketModem™.
iChip eliminates the need for an expensive processor, server or
PC to enable Internet access. Installed between the existing host
processor and the communication peripheral attached to your device’s
host board, iChip invokes simple, yet powerful Internet protocol
commands to send and receive email and Web pages, and to simultaneously
open and close up to 10 TCP and UDP sockets.
Simplified, High-Level API
Connect One’s AT+i™ Internet extension to the Hayes
AT command set is a high-level Application Programming Interface
(API) that instructs the host processor to access iChip. Only a
few lines of AT+i code on your host CPU are needed to Internet-enable
your device. In Internet mode, iChip invokes intuitive commands
on the host processor to run the Internet protocols. iChip then
sends commands to the communications peripheral to access, login,
authenticate, communicate and sign off the ISP. In transparent mode,
the host processor bypasses iChip, permitting direct two-way communication
between the host and a modem.
Ready to Integrate
iChip is ready to integrate with your existing processor via a serial
interface or via a parallel interface with an external UART. The
standard communication interface is a serial connection to a dial-up
or wireless modem or to a10BaseT Ethernet LAN. Connect One provides
iModem™ , a stand-alone Internet modem, for evaluation of
the iChip dial-up version. For evaluation of iChip LAN, Connect
One offers iLAN™ , a serial port-to-Internet LAN gateway.
The Instant Internet™ board is available for evaluation of
iChip Plus.

applications that require messaging and run in low-resource, price-sensitive
devices. iModem sends and receives data as E-Mail, or a Web page
enabling any device to communicate over the Internet without connecting
to a PC or a gateway server. It also enables the use of up to 10
UDP and TCP socket interfaces.
The iModem Internet Engine
The Internet Engine inside the Connect One™ iModem is iChip™
