Founded in 1998 by Conexant and ten other major industry leaders, the Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (PNA) is an industry association formed to define a standard for and drive the adoption of home networking over existing phone lines.

HomePlug Powerline Alliance (HomePlug)
HomePlug is a non-profit industry association founded in April 2000 by Conexant and twelve other major industry leaders. The association is committed to fostering an open specification for home networking products and services built to leverage the worldwide pervasiveness of residential power lines. The market opportunity for both of these standards, along with others, is growing as the number of households with more than one computer increases. Consumers will want to network multiple electronic devices in their homes, sharing high-speed Internet access among all their connected products for a wide range of applications including voice telephony, PC networks and gaming.

Conexant’s broadband communications portfolio includes a comprehensive suite of semiconductor solutions that enable the digital home and information network. The Conexant CX84200 Network Processor supports complete networking system solutions for a wide variety of mainstream applications in the residential and SOHO environments. Based on a 75 MHz ARM7TDMI, this Network Processor is a single-chip solution with an integrated switch that supports five 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports.



In a Broadband Gateway application, the CX84200 Network Processor can provide Internet access sharing capability for multiple PCs, while supporting Ethernet, HomePNA (Phoneline), HomePlug (Powerline), IEEE 802.11 and other LAN-side networking platforms. For WAN access, the unit supports Ethernet connectivity interoperable with any broadband modem. It is the ideal platform for a configurable broadband gateway design that needs to accommodate many diverse WAN/LAN topologies.

The device complies with IEEE 802.3 specification and includes five embedded DSP-based 10Base-T/100Base-TX transceivers. An auto negotiation function determines the selection of either the 10Base-T or 100Base-TX mode.
Typical applications would be a Wireless Home Gateway including an Ethernet WAN port to connect to a Broadband modem, four Ethernet LAN ports and an 802.11b access connecting to any Wi-Fi compatible device.

CX82100 Home Network Processor

Conexant's CX82100 Home Network Processor (HNP) is a single-chip, high-performance, ARM940T-based processor integrated with multiple network interface hardware functions and packaged in a 196-pin CABGA. This 185 MIPS processor supports software functions to implement a wide variety of complete networking system solutions for small business, SOHO and consumer networking applications. This network processor is designed and priced for the small business and home networking market. Other network processors, designed for commercial applications, are not optimised for typical small business and home networking applications, such as residential gateways, firewalls, switches and bridges. The CX82100 will enable our customers to develop and market cost-effective, high-performance products. In addition to a 144 MHz ARM940T core, the processor includes a dedicated high-speed program memory bus, a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port, an expansion bus, various General Purpose Input/Output (GPIO's) and timers and two 802.3 MACs. Combining these capabilities on a single chip, the CX82100 provides a cost-effective solution for residential gateways, firewalls and bridges.

  CX82110 xDSL Ready Home Network Processor

In an xDSL Residential Gateway (RG) application, the CX82110 HNP can provide Internet access sharing capability for multiple PCs, and supports Ethernet, HomePNA, HomePlug and other LAN-side home networking platforms. For the Wide Area Network (WAN) platforms, the unit supports Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL), High-bit-rate Subscriber Line (HDSL) and Symmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (SDSL).

It is the ideal platform for a configurable xDSL RG design that needs to accommodate many diverse WAN/LAN topologies. The CX82110 is based on an ARM940T with an AMBA, which defines two internal buses - the ASB and the APB. The 32-bit ASB is a high-performance, pipelined bus and connects multiple bus masters and supports internal interfaces to the processor, on-chip memory, external memory controller and DMA controller. The 64-bit APB connects peripheral interface blocks to the ASB and is designed for minimal power consumption and reduced complexity.

The device uses Conexant's ARM940T Harvard Load/Store Architecture cached processor macrocell with the ARM9TDMI 32-bit RISC-based Core. Separate instruction and data caches with a memory protection unit allow the memory to be segmented and protected simply and efficiently. The ARM940T uses a 5-stage pipeline and interfaces to the other CX82110 blocks using unified address and data bus that are compatible with the AMBA bus architecture.

CX8611x High Performance Network Processor

Conexant's broadband communications portfolio includes a comprehensive suite of semiconductor solutions that enable the digital home and information network. The Conexant CX86111/3 Network Processor supports complete networking system solutions for a wide variety of applications in the residential, commercial, SOHO (small office/home office) and ROBO (remote office/branch office) environments. Based on an ARM926EJ-S processor, the CX86111/3 operates at 200-300 MHz, and is powerful enough for the most intensive applications, yet sufficiently flexible to enable designs that can be leveraged into many different products. Also included is an integrated memory management unit (MMU) that supports major operating systems such as Linux, VxWorks and WindowsCE Net.

In a broadband gateway application, the CX86111/3 Network Processor can provide Internet access sharing for multiple PCs, while supporting Ethernet, HomePNA, HomePlug, IEEE 802.11 a/b/g, USB, and other LAN-side networking and connectivity platforms. Two Ethernet Media Access Controllers (EMACs) are integrated into the chip providing a cost-effective solution for any gateway application.

For WAN access, the CX86111/3 Network Processor supports Ethernet connectivity, as well as xDSL. It is the ideal platform for a configurable broadband gateway design that can accommodate many diverse WAN/LAN topologies. The CX86113 has advanced serial and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) capabilities. It can support up to four lines with G.7xx protocols running on Conexant voice coprocessors. Both a VoIP phone and a VoIP gateway can be easily designed using the CX86113.

The CX86111/3 supports high-speed secure virtual private network (VPN) implementations, with a triple data encryption standard (3DES) designated hardware engine that accelerates IP security protocol (IPSEC) implementations performance. CX86111/3 is a highly flexible solution due to its support for various bus technologies.

The CX86111/3 is based on the Advanced Microcontroller Bus Architecture (AMBA 2.0) with two internal buses - the Multi-layer Advanced Host Bus (AHB) and the Advanced Peripheral Bus (APB). The Multi-layer AHB is a high-performance bus that connects multiple bus masters and supports internal interfaces with an ARM926 processor, on-chip memory, external memory controller, DMA controller and USB Host. The APB connects peripheral interface blocks to the AHB.

Conexant's home networking products include network processors and LAN solutions for residential gateway architecture supporting bridging, routing, security and wireless functionality. Conexant's CX24611 is a next-generation home networking solution that uses existing telephone lines to connect multiple PCs, peripherals and other devices. This solution complies with the HomePNA 2.0 specification and supports 10 Mbps operation - offering speeds comparable with 10BaseT Ethernet, without the expense or effort of installing additional network wiring. The CX24611 is the first single-chip home networking PHY with an Analogue Front End (AFE) that can be easily integrated into a variety of devices including Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) and cable modems, residential gateways, firewalls, routers, switches, PCs and embedded products such as Internet and multimedia appliances. Packaged as a 100-pin Twin Quad Flat Pack (TQFP), the device implements receiver and transmitter functions for HomePNA 2.0. The CX24611 features a Media Independent Interface (MII) that provides superior flexibility for system manufacturers, allowing them to integrate home networking functionality into any device with an IEEE 802.3 MAC. This device is a significant building block for the digital home.
 
  RS7112 Multifunction Controller

The RS7112 multifunction Ethernet controller presents a simple way to network PCs and peripherals in the home while sharing Internet access. This highly integrated, low-cost and feature-rich solution combines Conexant's experience with multifunction Ethernet controllers and high-speed dial-up modems. The single-chip RS7112 supports HomePNA 1.0. The HomePNA phoneline network utilises existing telephone wiring to connect computers and devices without interrupting phone service. The RS7112 incorporates all IEEE 802.3 MAC functions, complete buffer management, the (MII), 7-wire serial interface and a Flash ROM interface. Additionally, the RS7112 supports both Conexant's HCF and HSF modems, providing superior system flexibility.
 
  Development Kits
  Development Kits are for customers that want more flexibility and customisation capabilities. Typically development kit customers will need to have a complete development environment that is operating system dependent. Currently our CX821XX development kits are based on WindRiver VxWorks OS.
  CX82100 HNP Development Kit

This kit provides a development platform for designing residential gateway products using the CX82100-11 processor. The development board plus two Ethernet PHY daughter boards are included, plus a 5-volt, 2-amp universal wall plug power supply, documentation CD, BSP software license agreement and a user's guide.
 
  CX82110 xDSL Ready HNP Development Kit

This development platform allows for the design of broadband and residential gateway products all in the same system. The kit includes the development board with the CX82110 processor, two Ethernet PHY daughter boards, a 12-volt, 2.5-amp universal power supply, documentation CD and a user's guide. The universal nature of this kit enables customers to develop a variety of applications through a collection of daughter boards that are either available or in development such as: ADSL, SDSL, VoIP, 10/100 PHY, HomePNA 2.0, HomePlug 1.0, 802.11b PC/Printer Server and others.
