What do GSM Modules do?

GSM modules allow ‘Serial to RF’ solutions to be integrated into applications. With the addition of suitable airtime via a SIM card, communication is available anywhere there is GSM coverage.

GSM modules provide a way of transmitting Data, Fax, Voice or SMS information across a wireless network.

Data - Using your GSM phone to receive and send data is the essential building block leading to widespread mobile Internet access and mobile data transfer. GSM currently has a data transfer rate of 9.6k. New developments that will push up data transfer rates for GSM users are HSCSD (high speed circuit switched data) and GPRS (general packet radio service) are now available.

SMS - The Short Message Service (SMS) is the ability to send and receive text messages to and from mobile telephones. The text can comprise of words or numbers or an alphanumeric combination. SMS was created as part of the GSM Phase 1 standard. The first short message is believed to have been sent in December 1992 from a Personal Computer (PC) to a mobile phone on the Vodafone GSM network in the UK. Each short message is up to 160 characters is length when Latin alphabets are used, and 70 characters in length when non-Latin alphabets such as Arabic and Chinese are used.

TC35-XP Integrated GPS and GSM

The TC35-XP integrates a GPS and GSM (optionally with GPRS) module into one compact unit. A programmable processor allows the developer to include his own applications, making this ideal for vehicle tracking, data loggers, the limit is only your imagination!

This is a dual-band GSM unit with an integrated SIM holder, meaning minimum design work for the fastest time to market.

MC35 GSM Terminal for Systems Integrators

This device allows systems engineers to replace current landline modems with wireless GSM connectivity. The modem will connect to existing landline systems, no change in software should be needed. The modem provides a full RS-232 to antenna interface.

We have starter packs available which include the module, antenna, power supply and serial cable. All you need to add is a network enabled SIM for access (we can even provide that!).

Antennas

We can supply antennas for all of our modules in every conceivable format: on-glass, bolt through, clip-on, mag-mount, base station, low profile, combined GSM and GPS, Dual-band, Tax-disc, bumper mounting.
